Maria Claro, painter and sculptress, was born in Barcelona, Spain; studied art and aesthetics in South America and in the US, and lives in North Carolina, USA. She works professionally in pastel, watercolor, egg tempera, gouache, charcoal, graphite, ink, oil and clay. Whatever medium used, she portrays the struggle between the positive and negative forces of our existence. Beauty is, for María Claro, to understand. The consequences of perception -- reality as a starting point to reach the meaning of being conscious --. María Claro is a member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, the Associated Artists of Winston-Salem and the Southeastern Pastel Society.
